Architect and professional practitioner Ir. Adi Utomo Hatmoko, M.Arch., who also serves as a lecturer at the Architecture and Planning Department, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), has once again achieved national recognition. His design for the Bali International Hospital received the highest recognition for architectural masterpieces in the Hospital and Healthcare category from IndoBuildTech on July 4, 2025. This award highlights the excellence of the design concept, the precision in planning, and the contribution of architecture to sustainability and quality of life.

The hospital masterplan stands out for its site-based design strategy and integration of both functional and contextual considerations. The project began with the development of the Health and Wellness Center Zone by Deloitte (2021–2022), followed by the Hospital Masterplan and Schematic Design by P.T. GRS and IHC (2022), and culminated in the final design and construction process involving P.T. GRS, Arkonin, and the Pembangunan Perumahan contractor (2023–2025). Situated on a 2.5-hectare beachfront site in Sanur, Bali, the 67,000-square-meter building is designed as a type-B general hospital with an initial capacity of 239 beds and six Centers of Excellence (CoE), with planned expansion to 1,000 beds across three development phases.
The hospital masterplan is guided by three core principles: patient-centered with positive experience, effective and efficient medical workflow, and healing nature and culture. These principles are reflected in both medical and supporting facilities, including radiotherapy units, laboratories, emergency services, pharmacy, and culinary and cultural arcades. The surgical center features 10 operating rooms, including micro-surgery, general surgery, rooms equipped with C-Arms, and Cathlab-supported surgery rooms.

The design of Bali International Hospital responds to the challenges of modern healthcare architecture while contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
- SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, by enhancing access to quality healthcare services;
- SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, through the use of innovative design and medical infrastructure technologies;
- SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, by integrating local context and environmentally conscious spatial planning;
- SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through cross-sectoral collaboration in the planning and construction process.
This achievement demonstrates Ir. Adi Utomo Hatmoko’s strong commitment to creating architectural works that are not only technically and aesthetically excellent, but also globally relevant and sustainability-driven.
