Yogyakarta, June 19, 2025 — The Master’s Program in Urban and Regional Planning (MPWK), Universitas Gadjah Mada, held its Final Studio Examination (UAS) as the culmination of this semester’s practice-based academic activities. This event served as an important moment for students to present their findings, analyses, and proposed flagship planning programs for each study area, which had been previously examined through field data collection.
In this studio, students were divided into several groups and assigned to study specific areas as their case locations. The areas analyzed included:
-
Cilacap Regency
-
Banyumas Regency
-
Yogyakarta City (Double Degree Program)
-
Pekalongan City
-
Pekalongan Regency (in collaboration with DXHR BAPPENAS)
-
Pemalang Regency
-
Purbalingga Regency
Each group presented their assessments of the existing conditions of their assigned areas, covering spatial, social, and economic aspects, as well as identifying development challenges and opportunities. Based on these findings, students formulated context-specific and applicable planning programs that took into account local characteristics and long-term development potential.
The student presentations received active responses from studio lecturers as well as representatives from the Regional Development Planning Agencies (Bappeda) of the respective regions. The involvement of practitioners played a vital role in bridging the academic sphere with the real planning needs of local governments.
This studio activity is also in line with MPWK UGM’s commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In particular, the activity contributes to:
-
Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
-
Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
-
Goal 4: Quality Education
-
Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals
This is realized through a collaborative, innovative, and data-driven approach to urban and regional planning processes.
