Building Better Hospitals: Material Insights from Ir. Adi Utomo Hatmoko, M.Arch.

Ir. Adi Utomo Hatmoko, M.Arch., a lecturer at the Department of Architecture at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and an architect with decades of professional experience, was one of the featured speakers at the ARCHMEP Meet & Talk held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, from 11:30 AM to 5:00 PM at the Swiss-Belinn Ballroom, Cawang, East Jakarta. The event brought together professionals from architecture, healthcare, and engineering under the main theme, “Design Failures in Hospital Planning.” Pak Adi, as he is affectionately called, reaffirmed his commitment to sharing knowledge and practical insights, especially on designing better, more functional, and sustainability-oriented healthcare facilities. read more

First Display of PPAr with External Architects and Progress on the C40: Reinventing Cities Competition

As the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year reaches its midpoint, the Studio Profesi II of PPAr has successfully held its first display session to present students’ design works, which will later be submitted to the C40: Reinventing Cities competition. This first display, held on Monday, April 14, 2025, also served as the Mid-Semester Examination (UTS) assessment for the students. Each student group presented their design ideas for the Marconi District Student Housing project.

In this display session, student works were reviewed by architects Rezza Rahdian, S.T., and Widi Cahya Yudhanta, S.T., M.Sc., who also acted as the main mentors for each group in Studio Profesi II. The works were also evaluated by other faculty members of DTAP, including Ir. Adi Utomo Hatmoko, M.Arch., and Dr. Eng. Alexander Rani Suryandono, S.T., M.Arch. The assessment by Ir. Adi Utomo Hatmoko took place on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. read more

Designing Space, Preserving Culture: Strategic Planning for DIY’s Development

As part of the implementation of spatial planning policies in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), the Department of Land and Spatial Planning (DISPERTARU DIY) organized a Dissemination of the Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW DIY 2023–2043) and the Strategic Development Plan for the Special Spatial Units (SRS) of the Kasultanan and Kadipaten Areas 2023–2043. The event took place on Friday, April 25, 2025, at the Adhikari Meeting Room, DISPERTARU DIY, featuring Prof. Ir. Bakti Setiawan, M.A., Ph.D. (Prof. Bobi) from Universitas Gadjah Mada as the keynote speaker. read more

Australian Students Learn About Sustainable Development at DTAP

On Friday (March 21), Dr. Ir. Tri Mulyani Sunarharum, S.T., IPU., was a guest lecturer at the Development Studies Immersion Program (DSIP) held at the Department of Architecture and Planning (DTAP), UGM. This event was part of the Australian Consortium for In-Country Indonesian Studies (ACICIS), a course program for university students from Australia to gain educational experience in Indonesia.

During the program, Dr. Tri Mulyani delivered a lecture to four student delegates from the University of Queensland and the University of Sydney participating in the DSIP program. Through her presentation titled “Sustainable Development and the Environment,” Dr. Tri Mulyani discussed Indonesia’s development challenges as well as global threats such as climate change and natural disasters. She emphasized the importance of development policies contributing to poverty alleviation (SDG 1), sustainable and disaster-resilient urban planning (SDG 11), and integrated climate change mitigation strategies across various sectors (SDG 13). read more

Guest Lecture on Urban Design Methods: Introduction to Space Syntax in Architecture and Urban Design

On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, the Master of Urban Design Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada invited Widi Cahya Yudhanta, S.T., M.Sc. as a guest lecturer for the Urban Design Methods course. The lecture was held offline in Lecture Room 1, 3rd Floor, and was mandatory for first-semester students of the even-year 2024 intake. During the session, Widi Cahya introduced the use of Space Syntax in architecture and urban design. Space Syntax is a set of analytical techniques used to study spatial layouts and human activity patterns within buildings and urban areas. In the fields of architecture and urban design, Space Syntax serves as a tool to identify systems, patterns, and spatial structures. read more

The Beginning of the Journey: From Instagram to London
Tsania’s interest in IISMA began in 2021, at the start of her university years. A post she saw on a senior’s Instagram sparked her curiosity, prompting her to explore more through UGM’s OIA social media and various other sources. From the beginning, Tsania had always dreamed of joining a student exchange program. So, she began to seriously attend IISMA info sessions and prepare herself to apply in 2024.

That motivation didn’t come out of nowhere. Since high school, Tsania had been interested in student exchanges because she wanted to experience firsthand what education systems and cultures abroad were like. She believed that cross-cultural experiences would enrich her perspective, both personally and academically. Seeing IISMA as a golden opportunity, she committed herself wholeheartedly to the process. read more

UGM Architecture Students Expand Knowledge through Archilecture: PERAFI and Asahimas, Support SDGs with Innovations in Facades and Building Materials

Yogyakarta, Friday, April 11, 2025 — The Undergraduate Program in Architecture and the Professional Program for Architect (PPAr) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) continue to support student learning by organizing educational events that stay in tune with industry trends. One such event, Archilecture, is an academic forum held by the UGM Architecture Department. This time, it was held in collaboration with PERAFI (Perkumpulan Ahli Fasad Indonesia) and Asahimas Flat Glass. The forum featured expert speakers: Fibra Reelianto (Chairman of PERAFI), Timothy Soebroto (Regional Director of Meinhardt Facade Technology), and Leonardo Pranata (Strategic Product Sales at PT Asahimas Flat Glass). The session was moderated by UGM Architecture lecturer, Kadek Indira. read more
