Friday, August 29, 2025 – In a hybrid format and open to the public via Zoom, the Urban and Regional Planning Program organized its Final Thesis Defense with an external examiner, Dr. Danang Yulisaksono, S.T., M.T., Head of Regional Innovation Research and Control Division, BAPPEDA Yogyakarta City. The defense, which serves as one of the final academic assessments for PWK students, was chaired by Dr. Eng. Ir. Muhammad Sani Roychansyah, S.T., M.Eng., and accompanied by internal examiner Prof. Ir. Bambang Hari Wibisono, MUP., M.Sc., Ph.D.

The event took place on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the Grand Mercure Hotel, Solo Baru. The workshop carried the theme Transformation of Indonesian Hospital Business in the Era of Change, a topic highly relevant to today’s healthcare facility challenges.
Yogyakarta, August 21, 2025 – The Department of Architecture and Planning (DTAP), Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada, welcomed an academic visit from Adamson University – College of Architecture, Philippines. The delegation was led by Sylvester Shaun D. Seño, MArch-CTM, ASEAN Ar, Dean of the College of Architecture, with the primary purpose of conducting a benchmarking study of UGM’s Bachelor of Architecture program.
The visit began with an official discussion session at the DTAP meeting room, where the Adamson University delegation was introduced to UGM’s undergraduate architecture curriculum. The presentation covered learning strategies, graduate learning outcomes, and the development of academic programs aligned with the future needs of the architecture profession. This exchange also reflected UGM’s commitment to supporting SDG 4: Quality Education through continuous improvement of higher education quality and innovative, globally adaptive teaching methods.
Localinsa is a local tourism organization based in Seoul, focusing on community-based tourism development and the preservation of neighborhood identity. The connection between Localinsa and the 2025 UGM KKA students was facilitated by a UGM Architecture lecturer, whose collaboration with Localinsa began during her doctoral studies in Seoul. This partnership has included various ecotourism projects that emphasize environmental sustainability, local community involvement, and the strengthening of cultural values.
On August 4, 2025, Architecture Department lecturer at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Odilia Renaningtyas Manifesty, S.T., MA(UD), Ph.D., accepted an invitation from the Department of Architecture, Korea University. This visit was an important part of DTAP UGM’s international agenda aimed at strengthening academic networks, expanding collaboration opportunities, and enriching academic experiences for both faculty members and students at the global level.
During the visit, Dr. Odilia was directly involved in several strategic academic activities. One of them was serving as a thesis examiner for master’s (S2) students in the field of architecture. This examination provided a platform for exchanging academic perspectives across countries, as well as appreciating research conducted by international students.
The Urban and Regional Planning Program (PWK) at Universitas Gadjah Mada is collaborating with the Yogyakarta City Government’s Department (Dinas Pekerjaan Umum, Perumahan, dan Kawasan Permukiman) to revitalize the area surrounding the Code river (as known as Kali Code). This initiative is part of the 2025/2026 odd-semester Urban Planning Studio, engaging students as emerging planners to envision the future of one of the city’s most iconic areas.
The collaboration offers strategic benefits for both sides: the city government gains support in preparing an integrated, research-based master plan, while UGM’s academic community, especially PWK students, has the opportunity to learn directly from a real-world case. Students will be involved in stakeholder engagement, enabling them to address on-site issues while testing their technical and social planning skills.

Tri Mulyani Sunarharum, S.T., IPU, popularly known as Ibu Yani, Lecturer at the Department of Urban and Regional Planning (PWK), Faculty of Engineering UGM, was one of the speakers at the National Seminar and Talkshow of Civil Engineering Days 2025, organized by Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta (UAJY) in collaboration with KAMAJAYA on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at UAJY Campus II Auditorium. The event carried the theme “Transformation of Infrastructure Development in Indonesia: Human Resources, Technology, and Sustainable Development” and brought together speakers from a wide range of related disciplines.
An integrated, safe, and sustainable transportation system is one of the main pillars of national progress. Recognizing the strategic role of this sector in boosting economic growth and improving quality of life, the government is currently drafting the National Transportation System Bill. This bill is expected to address existing challenges and seize opportunities in transportation to help achieve the national target of 8% economic growth.
To strengthen the academic manuscript and the draft bill, Dr. Tri Mulyani Sunarharum, lecturer at the Department of Architecture and Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada, and representative of the Asosiasi Sekolah Perencanaan Indonesia (ASPI), provided strategic recommendations. Her input was delivered during an online conference held on Thursday, August 7, 2025, starting at 1:00 PM (WIB). The involvement of academia in the policy-making process demonstrates the importance of synergy between education, government, and other stakeholders.

With the implementation of Indonesia’s 13-year compulsory education program, schools have truly become a second home for the nation’s children. Responding to this need, Kementerian Pendidikan Dasar dan Menengah, through Pusat Standar dan Kebijakan Pendidikan, has developed a new design model for educational facilities, an important step toward a more humane and higher-quality education system.
July 23, 2025 – Dr. Yori Herwangi, S.T., M.URP., served as a guest speaker in a training session organized by the World Resources Institute (WRI) Indonesia, a research organization known for its approach of “Count It, Change It, and Scale It” in driving impact through data-based research. The training was held online via Zoom from 10.00 to 12.00 WIB.
In this session, Dr. Yori presented a topic titled Basic Applied Quantitative Research: Data Collection and Analysis. She began by introducing the fundamentals of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method research, explaining their characteristics and types. She then delved into quantitative analysis methods, covering descriptive and inferential statistics. The presentation also included explanations of univariate, bivariate, and multivariate statistics, supported by real-world examples to help participants better grasp the concepts.
