Ristya Arinta Safitri, a doctoral student of the Architecture Program, Department of Architecture and Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada (DTAP FT UGM), has published her scholarly article entitled “Adaptability of Siheyuan (四合院) Spatial Arrangement in Chinese Houses in Kampung Ketandan, Yogyakarta, Indonesia” in the internationally reputable journal Built Heritage, indexed by Scopus. This publication is part of her dissertation research conducted under the supervision of Prof. Ir. Tarcicius Yoyok Wahyu Subroto, M.Eng., Ph.D., IPUas Promoter, and Dr. Ir. Dwita Hadi Rahmi, M.A. as Co-Promoter.

The research focuses on the adaptation of traditional Chinese courtyard houses, known as Siheyuan (四合院), which represent a cultural form brought by Chinese migrants to the host region. Specifically, the study aims to explore the spatial adaptation of Chinese houses in Kampung Ketandan, a Chinese settlement that has existed for over 200 years in Yogyakarta, while also reflecting the influence of Javanese culture. A qualitative research method was employed to collect data on six original Chinese houses through observation and interviews. Publishing in reputable international journals is one of the graduation requirements for doctoral students of the Architecture Program, DTAP FT UGM. Beyond fulfilling academic requirements, such publications enhance the students’ scientific contributions within their field of expertise and foster a strong research culture that supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education. Furthermore, Ristya’s research topic specifically addresses SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, by highlighting how housing adapts to climate conditions, materials, and the aspiration for cultural acceptance within the local community.
