Department of Architecture and Planning in collaboration with the National Research Foundation of South Korea (NRF Korea) held a short course on the use of drones. The basis for this short course is because in general, the knowledge of how to use drones for Architecture and Planning Research is rarely held in lectures. Usually drone course held by professional course institutions with a paid system. Thus, the Department of Architecture and Planning offers free short courses that preferred for senior undergraduate and master students (3rd, 4th and 5th+ year and MPWK) during semester holidays.
Each participant who has registered required to attend the entire course agenda held from January to February 2019. Topics raised are various, ranging from transportation, environment, green open space, housing and settlements, history, tourism, disasters, to agriculture. The short course divided into two, to wit in the class on weekdays and practice in the field at the weekend. When in class, there are invite speakers to explain different topics according to their respective expertise. Here are some invited speakers:
- Personal Astronomy Test (GIS and Remoter Sensing Consultant-Center for International Forestry Research) is present on February 4, 2019 by presenting the topic ‘Drones for Environmental Research’
- Irendra Radjawali (Partnership for Governance Reform-Researchers at the Institute for Oriental and Asian Studies, Bonn University, Germany) attended on February 6, 2019 by presenting topics around the use of drones in agriculture and the environment and community justice.
- Febriyanti Suryaningsih (Executive Director of Indonesian Architectural Documentation Center) and Brahmantara (Heritage Documenting, 3d Laser Scanning and Digital Photogrametry-Borobudur Conservation Center) attended on 11 February 2019 by presenting material on the use of drones in the conservation and preservation of heritage sites.
While during the practice in the field, the course was lead by Jaehyeon (Jay) Park as the instructor assisted by Irsyad Adhi Waskita H., S.T., M.Sc. The practice uses two drones with the DJI Mavic Pro 2 model and the DJI Mavic Air Dual Combo which is a relief from NRF Korea. Although the two drones are not the highest quality models, not a few professionals use the model.
