MPWK UGM Achieves Achievement at the 4th ISTSDC in ITB

NewsSDGsSDGs 11SDGs 4SDGs 9Student Achievement Tuesday, 14 November 2023

On November 11, 2023, Maria Orchita Bella, a student of the Master Program in Urban and Regional Planning (MPWK UGM), and Daniel Harjuna, an alumnus of Urban and Regional Planning, achieved achievements at The 26th FSTPT Symposium & The 4th International Symposium on Transport Studies in Developing Countries (ISTSDC) at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).

Under the guidance of Mrs. Isti Hidayati, ST, M.Sc., Ph.D, Maria Orchita was awarded as the Best Postgraduate Presenter with a research entitled “Identification of City Shaping Elements in Measuring the Potential of Walkability in the Heritage City Area”. This research aims to find the city-forming elements in the heritage city area that can affect the level of walkability, which is carried out using the content analysis method. The research found that city-forming elements influence walkability but the results are still fragmented. Heritage Cities have special elements that are different from cities in general, due to their past existence, which makes it impossible to have ideal pedestrian infrastructure as in cities that are planned for walking.

Meanwhile, Daniel Harjuna, under the guidance of Dr. Yori Herwangi, S.T., MURP, won the 3rd Place Best Presenter award, presenting his research entitled “Spatial Analysis and Recommendation of Bus Rapid Transit Corridor and Infrastructure for Satellite City in a Developing Country: Case of Bekasi City, Indonesia.” This research aims to improve connectivity between Bekasi City activity centers and provide a quality public transportation network. Bekasi City Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor and infrastructure planning recommendations are based on spatial analysis, addressing challenges such as sprawling development and public transportation weaknesses. The results provide recommendations for BRT corridors and BRT infrastructure with positive impacts such as equitable development of transportation infrastructure, increased concentration of activities in sub-cities, modal shifting, intermodal integration, reduced traffic congestion, and improved reliability of public transportation.

With their work, Maria Orchita Bella and Daniel Harjuna hope that transportation planning in Indonesia will focus more on sustainability and orientation to human needs. Congratulations to all the students who made this achievement, hopefully their achievements can provide inspiration for other friends.

DTAP Students Make Achievements in Indonesia DfGE Design Competition 2023

NewsSDGsSDGs 11SDGs 13SDGs 4SDGs 7SDGs 9Student Achievement Saturday, 28 October 2023

Towards the end of 2023, DTAP students made another achievement through the Indonesia DfGE Design Competition 2023. The event was organized by IFC and EDGE together with 20 partner universities that are members of the Design for Greater Efficiency (DfGE) program engaged in green building. This national competition was attended by 53 participating teams which were then filtered into 10 winners with 5 main winners. Universitas Gadjah Mada itself sent 4 teams, all of which were DTAP students and mentored by Dr. Ir. Jatmika Adi Suryabrata, M.Sc., Dr.Eng. Nedyomukti Imam Syafii, S.T., M.Sc., and Dr.Eng. Agus Haryadi, S.T., M.Sc.

In the Awarding Ceremony held on October 24, 2023, the team consisting of Jundullah Salman Alfaruq, Diena Aslama Scientifionisa Kurniapramono, Naufal Mufid, and Zeka Oktaviana Putri. (PPAr, 2023) with the work MuraKarya KotakAsa was awarded as the Second Winner. MuraKarya KotakAsa is a student dormitory design that prioritizes student comfort by utilizing green building advancements to support it. There are four concepts raised in this building design, namely: (1) Green Oasis, meaning a dormitory that is friendly to the ecosystem by minimizing building mass occupancy and maximizing green areas. In addition, by using green building strategies, this dormitory is designed with a focus on student comfort. (2) Seamless Connectivity, meaning the creation of connection spaces between residents and other residents or residents with nature / the environment. (3) Secure Haven, ensuring the comfort, safety, and health of residents both physically and mentally. (4) Essence Sanctum, a dormitory that can improve the welfare and comfort of students by improving the quality of ventilation and lighting in spaces that utilize green building strategies. As the second winner, each team member is entitled to a Certificate, Trophy, Xiaomi Pad 6 + Pen, and their work will be included in a book published by IFC.

While the team of Ade Nurma Prasetyo, Ilham Sukarno Puji Muri, Dhemas Aryo Hutomo, and Muhammad Rafli Alrizqi (MARS, 2022) with the work of New Bulak Sumur Dormitory won the title as Third Winner. New Bulak Sumur Dormitory is a student dormitory design that applies green building strategies such as: (1) Reduction of WWR (Window to Wall Ratio) to 13.52% and 13.37% with a pivot window type to facilitate control of wind entry and facilitate window cleaning. (2) Exterior walls use reflective materials to inhibit heat transfer from the building skin. (3) Ceiling Fan to increase thermal comfort according to the needs of residents. The use of natural ventilation certainly affects the rental price of units that can be reached by all groups. (4) Solar PV installation by allocating 80% of the roof area as a photovoltaic site so as to obtain 1.4-1.5 kWp per unit. (5) Natural Ventilation by maximizing cross ventilation between rooms and corridors and voids/atrium that bring air from below. To anticipate the heat carried by the wind, a pond is provided in the middle of the building as an evaporation-based cooling strategy, as well as the placement of plants in open spaces on each floor as an evapotranspiration cooling strategy. These strategies in the building design were able to save energy up to 73.77% (male dormitory building) and 70.36% (female dormitory building). As the third winner, each team member is entitled to a certificate, trophy, Wacom Intuos Medium, and their work will be included in a book published by IFC.

Through their works, they hope that more architecture students and young architects will be more concerned about green building issues for sustainable development. Congratulations to all students who have achieved achievements, hopefully it can be an inspiration for other friends.
