PPAr Students’ Road To C40: Reinventing Cities Competition

Tuesday, February 11th, 2025 marked the start of Professional Studio II from the Professional Architect Education Program that is being held in the second semester of Academic Year 2024/2025. There are differences on how the scheme of Professional Studio II is conducted this year compared to the previous years where students will be undergoing internship under an architectural firm. In this year’s studio, the students will be directly guided by external architects in preparation to participate in an open international architectural competition called C40: Reinventing Cities.

On the first day of the studio, architect Rezza Rahdian, S.T. and architect Widi Cahya Yudhanta, S.T., M.Sc. were both present on the campus of Department of Architecture and Planning (DTAP) Universitas Gadjah Mada to give an introduction and to hold an interview session with the students. The aforementioned interview was held to determine the students into two different teams to participate in the competition. With a site located in Milan-Segrate, Italy, the participants of the competition are required to design Marconi District Student Housing.

As of March 20th, the current PPAr students have completed each of their team’s registration to participate in C40: Reinventing Cities. In addition, guidance by the architects have proceeded in routine weekly by utilizing the allocated time for Professional Studio II course. The unconventional location of the site, added by direct guidance provided by external architects, are expected to give the students a novel knowledge while also enhancing their experiences in their journey of becoming an architect.

This activity and the content given through this year’s Professional Studio II go in hand with SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG 13: Climate Action.
