Closed Examination of Luhur Sapto Pamungkas

On January 13, 2025, the Doctoral Program of Architecture, DTAP FT UGM, held a Closed Examination for Doctoral Candidate Luhur Sapto Pamungkas with the dissertation titled “Socio-Cultural Values in the Model of Sustainable Urban Kampung in Yogyakarta City.”

This research was conducted to explore the factors influencing sustainable urban kampung (KUB), which were identified based on sustainable development theories and empirical facts from previous studies. The aim was to examine these factors and discover a formula for KUB. read more

he Doctoral Program in Architecture, DTAP Faculty of Engineering UGM, successfully held the Kamisan Forum on Thursday, March 13, 2025. This edition of the Kamisan Forum was supported by UGM Press and featured a book discussion on Social Capital in Urban Kampung Communities from the Perspective of Javanese Culture.

The book is the work of Prof. Ir. Tarcicius Yoyok Wahyu Subroto, M.Eng., Ph.D., IPU, a professor in the Doctoral Program in Architecture. It was published by UGM Press in October 2024 and contains the results of his research on the dynamics of kampung (urban village) life. read more

To inspire the students’ architectural enthusiasm, on Friday, March 21, 2025, the Undergraduate Architecture Program held a guest lecture event called Archilecture with the theme “Have Fun with Architecture Elements”in Lecture Room 1 of the Department of Architecture and Planning (DTAP), Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada. The event featured two alumni from UGM’s Undergraduate Architecture Program: Russelin Edhyati (Videshiiya Studio) and Adityo Gayuh Laksono (Collabo Design Studio/CDS), and was moderated by UGM Architecture lecturer Nur Zahrotunnisaa Zagi, S.T., M.T. read more

Best Progress Appreciation: Design Process Competition

This competition assesses every step of the design process, from problem analysis, solution strategies, to exploration of alternative designs that are presented creatively and clearly.

This event was organized by the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Diponegoro University (UNDIP) in collaboration with MARS Architects, the Asian Development Bank, Van Eesteren-Fluck & Van Lohuizen Stichting, and the Embassy of the Netherlands. PolyUrbanWaters: A Collaborative Approach to Sustainable Urban Water Management in Southeast Asia

As rapid urbanization continues to shape Southeast Asia, the need for sustainable water management becomes increasingly critical. Addressing this challenge, PolyUrbanWaters is a groundbreaking research and project network funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). It brings together academic institutions, municipalities, government agencies, civil society, and private-sector stakeholders from Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, and Germany to develop a polycentric approach to urban water management. read more

MPWK UGM Students Conduct Field Survey in West Java

Graduate students from the Master of Urban and Regional Planning Program (MPWK) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) carried out a field study in several areas across West Java from February 24 to 28, 2025. This activity is part of the academic process aimed at analyzing potentials and identifying issues to support the preparation of urban and regional development plans.

The field study covered four locations: Cimahi City, Cibitung, Bekasi Regency, and Bogor City. These sites were selected based on the focus of each studio group, which was divided into two main areas of interest: city-scale planning and regional-scale planning. read more

Recently, the Architecture Study Program of the Department of Architecture and Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Universaitas Gadjah Mada successfully held a guest lecture entitled “Integrating Türkiye Architecture into Halal Tourism“. This activity invited Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Pamukçu who is a lecturer from the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Afyon Kocatepe University, Türkiye.

This activity was held on Friday, November 1, 2024 in Lecture Room 1 of the Department of Architecture and Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada. This activity was attended by students of the Doctoral Program in Architecture, Master Program in Architecture with Tourism Concentration, and Bachelor Program in Architecture who took Tourism Architecture, Thematic Studio with Prof. Ir. Wiendu Nuryanti, M.Arch., Ph.D., and Materiality. read more

New Clark City, Philippines – Warid Zul Ilmi, a graduate student in the Master’s Program in Urban and Regional Planning (MPWK) at Gadjah Mada University (UGM), participated in a series of activities during ISOCARP’s 60th World Planning Congress “Diamond Anniversary Series – 1st International Conference for New Cities | Planning New Regenerative Cities,” held in New Clark City (NCC), Philippines. The event began with the Young Professional Program Workshop (YPP) themed “Planning New Generative Cities” from September 2 to 6, 2024, followed by the World Planning Congress from September 10 to 13, 2024. read more

Officially Launch of Bamboo Center, KATGAMA and FT UGM Hope to Increase Tourism Potential of Talunombo

On Monday, August 26, 2024, the KATGAMA Bamboo Hall in Padukuhan Talunombo, Sidomulyo Village, Pengasih District, Kulon Progo Regency was inaugurated by KATGAMA and FT UGM. The 9 x 9 meter hall was designed by Prof. Euginius Pradipto from the Department of Architecture and Planning UGM, the funding came from the Engineering Alumni Family of Universitas Gadjah Mada (KATGAMA). The construction of this hall lasted for 6 months, starting with the groundbreaking on February 18, 2024 by involving local residents and utilizing local materials. read more
