The Architecture Program of Universitas Gadjah Mada held a Matereality Lecture on Friday, August 29, 2025, at Lecture Room 1 (K1). The session, which took place from 08:30 to 11:00 WIB, featured Daikin Air Conditioning as the guest speaker, presenting a special topic on ventilation systems in hotel buildings.

The lecture opened with remarks from Ms. Nur Zahrotunnisaa Zagi, who explained the course contract for Matereality as well as the point-based system, which serves as a prerequisite for enrolling in the Materiality in Architecture course. The event was attended by undergraduate architecture students and was mandatory for students of the Comprehensive Technology Studio, as the hotel design theme directly aligned with the studio project for the semester. read more

To celebrate the selection of candidates for the Thesis of the Year (TOY) and Student’s Design Competition (SDC) of the Architects Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA) 2025 by the Association of Architectural Higher Education in Indonesia (APTARI) and the Indonesian Institute of Architects (IAI), the Undergraduate Architecture Program, Department of Architecture and Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada held the TOY & SDC ARCASIA Indonesia 2025 Exhibition.

This exhibition showcases 13 TOY finalists and 10 SDC finalists who were selected through a two-stage process: the regional level by APTARI and the national level by IAI. As the initiator of this exhibition, IAI appointed undergraduate architecture programs at 14 universities across Indonesia, including Universitas Gadjah Mada, as the host of the TOY and SDC ARCASIA 2025 Indonesia exhibition from July 7 to August 8, 2025. Specifically for UGM, the exhibition was extended until mid-August 2025 to welcome the new batch of architecture students. In organizing this exhibition, IAI required participating programs to present works anonymously to maintain fairness in the Asia-level judging process and to design the exhibition in a way that reflects the uniqueness of each university. read more

The ceremony was held at Pendapa Tedjo Suminto and attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada, faculty members of the Architecture Program, invited guests including representatives from IAI and external architectural partners, and, of course, the main highlight of the event: the students being inaugurated.

The event began with the singing of Indonesia Raya and the Hymn of Gadjah Mada, followed by opening remarks from the Dean of FT UGM, Prof. Ir. Selo, S.T., M.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., and a speech by the Chairman of IAI, Ar. Georgius Budi Yulianto, S.T., M.T., IAI, AA. The ceremony then continued with the signing of a cooperation charter by the Dean of FT UGM, Prof. Ir. Selo, S.T., M.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., representing DTAP UGM, alongside Ar. Arwan Suryanto, S.T., M.Sc., IAI; R. Bimanova Adiasta Permana, S.Ars. (CV Permana Adikinarya); Jonathan Sanjaya, S.T., IAI (CV Sanjaya Architecture); Ar. Three students of the 2024 cohort of the Master’s Program in Architecture (PMPSA), Universitas Gadjah Mada, who are participants in Studio 2 under the Housing and Settlement Architecture Research Group, successfully conducted their final studio presentation on Thursday, June 19, 2025. The students presented the results of their research, which had been carried out throughout the semester under the guidance of lecturers from the Housing and Settlement Architecture Research Group, namely Dr.Eng. Ir. Ahmad Sarwadi, M.Eng., IPM, and Ardhya Nareswari, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. The final presentation was also attended by Diananta Pramitasari, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., Head of the PMPSA Program, who provided valuable feedback on the students’ research outcomes. read more

Yogyakarta, August 19, 2025 – The Undergraduate, Master’s, and Doctoral Programs in Urban and Regional Planning (PWK), Universitas Gadjah Mada, welcomed the 2025/2026 academic year with an inaugural lecture themed “The Role of Information Technology in Enhancing the Effectiveness of Spatial Planning.”

The lecture was held onsite at the SGLC (Smart Green Learning Center) Auditorium, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada. It was attended by faculty members and students of the PWK program across all levels—undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral—particularly new students. read more

On Friday, June 13, 2025, the Archilecture session “Graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture, What’s Next?” was held in Room K1 at DTAP UGM. This Archilecture session was combined with the Socialization of the Professional Architect Education Program (PPAr), with both topics delivered directly by Dr. Eng. Ar. Alexander Rani Suryandono, S.T., M.Arch., IAI, as the Head of the PPAr Program.

The lecture was open to all UGM architecture students in person and to the public online. It discussed career prospects as an architect in Indonesia as well as the regulations governing the profession. Students also learned about the requirements and prerequisites needed to join IAI (Ikatan Arsitek Indonesia/Indonesian Institute of Architects) as professional architects. read more

On Monday, July 21, 2025, the second thesis defense in the Architectural Design Concentration was successfully completed by Anindya Dhiracitta. Citta presented her thesis titled “Adaptive Co-Housing Model Based on Participatory Design for Young Generations in Yogyakarta.”

Amid the housing affordability crisis and the growing demand for supportive social spaces, conventional housing models often fail to accommodate the lifestyles and values of today’s younger generation. Through a Means-End Chain analysis approach, this thesis explored the relationship between housing attributes, usage consequences, and personal values considered significant for the lives of young people. This process was then translated into the design of an adaptive co-housing model, developed collaboratively with prospective residents through participatory design. read more

On Thursday, June 12, 2025, students of the 2024 Master of Urban Design Program, Universitas Gadjah Mada (Even Semester), held the Final Presentation of the Basic Urban Design Exploration Studio. The event featured an external reviewer from the Yogyakarta City Office of Land and Spatial Planning, Mr. Pamungkas, S.T., M.T., along with his team.

The Basic Exploration Studio is part of the learning process that emphasizes initial explorations of urban issues in depth. This semester, under the guidance of Dr. Eng. Ir. Muhammad Sani Roychansyah, S.T., M.Eng. and Dr. Dyah Titisari Widyastuti, S.T., MUDD, the project theme was “West Jogja Rapid Growth Area”, with a specific focus on the area surrounding HOS Cokroaminoto Street, Yogyakarta. The students conducted spatial, social, and environmental analyses as the foundation for developing sustainable area development strategies. read more

An integrated, safe, and sustainable transportation system is one of the main pillars of national progress. Recognizing the strategic role of this sector in boosting economic growth and improving quality of life, the government is currently drafting the National Transportation System Bill. This bill is expected to address existing challenges and seize opportunities in transportation to help achieve the national target of 8% economic growth.

To strengthen the academic manuscript and the draft bill, Dr. Tri Mulyani Sunarharum, lecturer at the Department of Architecture and Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada, and representative of the Asosiasi Sekolah Perencanaan Indonesia (ASPI), provided strategic recommendations. Her input was delivered during an online conference held on Thursday, August 7, 2025, starting at 1:00 PM (WIB).
