Prof. Ir. Ikaputra, M.Eng., Ph.D., a lecturer at the Department of Architecture and Planning (DTAP), Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), was officially inaugurated as a Professor of Universitas Gadjah Mada on Thursday (June 4) at the UGM Senate Hall. During the inauguration ceremony, Prof. Ikaputra received the Professor’s ceremonial sash from the Chair of the UGM Board of Professors, accompanied by the Chair of the UGM Academic Senate and the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of the Faculty of Engineering.

The Urban and Regional Planning Program (PWK) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) recently held a guest lecture exploring both the technical and human aspects of post-disaster management. Featuring Ir. Ashar Saputra, Ph.D., IPM from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, UGM, the discussion highlighted the complexity of regional recovery efforts in Sumatra following devastating flood events.
In his presentation, Dr. Ashar emphasized that recovery is not merely about rebuilding what has been damaged, but about implementing the Build Back Better principle. He highlighted real challenges encountered in the field, including logistical constraints, debris removal, and limited access to construction materials in remote areas. One notable aspect discussed was the importance of locality-based approaches, where during emergency situations, flood-drifted wood can be creatively reused to construct environmentally friendly temporary shelters while actively involving disaster survivors in the recovery process.
Spatial Planning Strategies and Regional Transformation of Magelang Regency in PWK UGM Guest Lecture
The Undergraduate Program in Urban and Regional Planning (PWK), Universitas Gadjah Mada, once again held a guest lecture focusing on the spatial dynamics of Magelang Regency. The session featured Dhanik Ernawati, S.T., M.Eng., an expert from the Regional Development Planning, Research, and Development Agency (BAPPEDA & LITBANGDA) of Magelang Regency. She delivered a presentation titled “Spatial Planning for Enhancing the Competitiveness of Magelang Regency”.
In her presentation, Ms. Dhanik elaborated on the latest spatial policy direction formalized through Regional Regulation No. 7 of 2024 on the 2024–2044 Spatial Plan (RTRW) of Magelang Regency. Often described as a “water bowl” due to its topographical form, Magelang Regency exhibits diverse spatial potentials. The western and northern mountainous areas are designated for agriculture and nature-based tourism, while the central region serves as a hub for trade and industrial activities. Meanwhile, the eastern areas are identified for C-class mining activities. This spatial framework is designed to support the regency’s vision of being safe, comfortable, religious, competitive, and prosperous.
The Community Service Team – Building Technology Research Group, Architecture Study Program of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Yogyakarta, in collaboration with the Gedongkiwo Tourism Awareness Group (Kelompok Sadar Wisata/Pokdarwis), conducted a Tourism Planning Program for Gedongkiwo Urban Village, Mantrijeron District, Yogyakarta City in 2025. This activity aimed to encourage the development of community- and culture-based urban tourism through a sustainable spatial planning and architectural approach.
On Friday, 26 September 2025, the Architecture Study Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) successfully held an event entitled “MateREALity: AutoConz 3D Construction Printing” as part of the MateREALity 2025/2026 series. The activity was shared via Instagram and featured on the official @architecture.ugm account.
The session focused on the introduction and exploration of 3D construction printing technology as an innovation in the construction industry. The event was organized in collaboration with DEKKSON, which introduced AutoConz technology as one of the breakthroughs in future construction methods.
Yogyakarta, 31 October 2025 – The Undergraduate Program of Urban and Regional Planning (PWK), Universitas Gadjah Mada, once again held a guest lecture entitled “Towards Sustainable Industrial Areas: Concepts, Governance, and Development Strategies of the Batang Integrated Industrial Estate (KIT Batang).” The lecture was conducted offline and was open to the public at the DTAP Building, Universitas Gadjah Mada. Beyond a conventional guest lecture, the event was also conducted in collaboration with the Student Association of Urban and Regional Planning Engineering (HMTPWK) UGM as part of the Company Visit x Industrial Estate Planning Course.
Yogyakarta, 28 October 2025 – In this edition, the Department of Urban and Regional Planning (PWK), Universitas Gadjah Mada, held a guest lecture entitled “Property Market Research.” The lecture was conducted offline at the Department of Architecture and Planning Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada. The event featured Nurul Soraya Desi Yonasari, Senior Researcher at Colliers Indonesia, as the guest speaker.

In this guest lecture, Nurul Soraya delivered a comprehensive discussion on property market research, with a particular focus on the hospitality sector. The session began with a fundamental understanding of hotels, covering classifications based on star ratings and travel purposes, as well as an introduction to hotel chains and branding concepts.
Prof. Ir. Bakti Setiawan M.A., Ph.D., commonly known as Prof. Bobi, served as a speaker in the Knowledge Sharing event on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. The event was organized by P.T. Sarana Multi Infrastruktur and provided valuable insights into the development of tourism and airport operations in Indonesia. Prof. Bobi presented a lecture titled “Tourism and Airport Operations in Indonesia: Current Condition and Its Prospect (Special Case in Heritage Tourism).”
In his introduction, Prof. Bobi emphasized that tourism holds significant potential for economic growth, equitable development, and poverty alleviation. The aspects of hospitality and creativity are increasingly critical in this industry. In addition, transportation facilities such as airports, seaports, and terminals play a vital role, with accessibility being a key factor in the growth of tourism in any region.
A presentation on the Cosmological Axis of Yogyakarta delivered by Dr. Eng. Ir. Laretna Trisnantari Adhisakti, M.Arch., or Bu Sita, before researchers of the Taiwan Heritage Society on 29 October 2025 introduced a fresh perspective to the global discourse on heritage city management. Representing the UGM–UNESCO Chair, she not only explained Yogyakarta’s achievement as a UNESCO World Heritage Site but also demonstrated how traditional spatial philosophy can inspire modern approaches to sustainability.
Yogyakarta, 19 November 2025 – Prof. Ir. Bakti Setiawan, M.A., Ph.D., commonly known as Prof. Bobi, Professor of Urban and Regional Planning at Universitas Gadjah Mada, attended the peak event of the 2025 Gebyar Hari Agraria dan Tata Ruang (Hantaru) at the invitation of the Yogyakarta City Land and Spatial Planning Office (Dinpertaru). The event, themed “Padhang Resik Jogjaku” (Bright and Clean Yogyakarta), took place on Tuesday, 18 November 2025, at Hotel Royal Darmo Malioboro, Yogyakarta. The presence of this senior urban planning expert reflects strong academic support for the city government’s efforts to create a more humane and sustainable urban environment.
