Yogyakarta, May 24, 2025 — The Master Program in Urban and Regional Planning (MURP), Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), welcomed a delegation from the China Center for Urban Development (CCUD) to explore potential collaboration in the field of smart and sustainable city development.

The delegation, led by Mr. Liu Qiang, Deputy Director General of CCUD, and Ms. Zhao Fanfan, Director of the Digital Economy Office within the Smart and Low-Carbon Development Division, was received by Dr. Eng. Muhammad Sani Roychansyah, S.T., M.Eng., and Dr. Ir. Tri Mulyani Sunarharum, S.T., Head and Secretary of the MURP Program. The meeting served as a platform to exchange insights and identify opportunities for future cooperation in areas of urban innovation, planning, and policy.

During the discussion, CCUD shared its experience in formulating smart city masterplans across various regions in China—integrating digital technology, spatial planning, and low-carbon development into comprehensive urban strategies. These insights were highly relevant for Indonesia’s  urban transformation journey, where cities are seeking resilient, inclusive, and adaptive approaches to urban growth.

The visit also aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Topics such as digital transformation and low-carbon initiatives further highlighted commitments toward climate action (SDG 13) and inclusive economic growth (SDG 8).

MURP UGM expressed enthusiasm for future collaboration with CCUD, particularly in joint research, policy dialogue, and capacity-building initiatives. The visit marked a meaningful first step in building international partnerships to shape smarter, greener, and more human-centered urban futures.
