On Wednesday, August 19, 2026, the Department of Architecture and Planning (DTAP), Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held a farewell event for graduating students who were scheduled to attend the graduation ceremony on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Grha Sabha Pramana (GSP) UGM. The event was attended by the graduating students and their parents, as well as DTAP faculty members and staff who have contributed to their education throughout their studies.
From the May to July 2026 graduation assessment period, the Undergraduate Architecture Study Program graduated 53 students, while the Undergraduate Urban and Regional Planning Study Program (PWK) graduated 45 students. In total, 98 graduates from the two study programs are now ready to begin the next chapter of their journey after completing their studies at DTAP.
During the event, a parent of one of the graduating students also gave a speech. Representing the parents, the father of Atifah, one of the graduating students from the Undergraduate Urban and Regional Planning Study Program, expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation to DTAP for the education and experiences their children had received.
He recalled how, several years ago, the parents brought their children to campus to begin their university journey, and how they can now see the results of that journey. He emphasized that graduation is not only about adding a degree after one’s name, but also about taking on greater responsibilities.
He also apologized on behalf of the students for any mistakes they may have made during their studies and expressed his hopes that the graduates would continue to achieve success and that DTAP would continue to achieve excellence. He encouraged the graduates to broaden their horizons, whether they choose to continue their studies or enter the professional world, while always upholding excellence and good character.
Representing the graduating students, Izaaz Rafiif Badrutamam expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to study at UGM. He described studying at the “kampus bata merah” as a valuable opportunity, where students were shaped into individuals ready to face the next stage of their lives.
He also expressed his appreciation to all lecturers for the knowledge and guidance they had provided throughout their studies. According to him, the graduates’ achievements would not have been possible without the support and guidance of the lecturers. He also reminded his fellow graduates that graduation is not the end, but the beginning of a new journey.
“Wherever we are, wherever we are placed, may we carry these good values with us, contribute, and bring benefits to the people around us,” said Izaaz.
Meanwhile, Nayan, representing KMHM through the Chairperson of KMTA, also congratulated all graduating students. He emphasized that graduation is not only about earning a degree, but also the result of a long journey and process throughout their university years, both in Architecture and Urban and Regional Planning.
According to him, life after university will bring greater challenges. However, the various experiences gained during their studies are expected to become valuable preparation for the graduates as they face those challenges. He expressed his confidence that all graduates would be able to move forward and overcome the challenges ahead.
The farewell event is part of the continuing educational journey in preparing graduates with the knowledge, skills, and sense of responsibility needed to contribute to society. This is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, through higher education that equips students with the competencies needed to face future challenges. Graduates of Architecture and Urban and Regional Planning are also expected to apply their knowledge to support SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth through their professional contributions, as well as SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities by contributing to the development of inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable built environments and urban areas.
