Yogyakarta, April 29, 2025 – The Undergraduate Program in Urban and Regional Planning held another guest lecture on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. This edition focused on the theme “Gender Empowerment and Development”, featuring Kiana Puti Aisha, S.PWK, M.A., a Development Practitioner and Policy Partnership Manager for Indonesia – Investing in Women, as the guest speaker.

This guest lecture aimed to explore the role of gender in the context of planning and development, how gender-related issues such as gender equality influence planning policies and practices, and the dynamics and challenges involved. read more

The lecture was held virtually and was attended by students from the Urban and Regional Planning Undergraduate Program at UGM as well as members of the general public. read more

Yogyakarta, April 24, 2025 – The Undergraduate Program in Urban and Regional Planning once again held a guest lecture in collaboration with a practitioner, conducted on Thursday, April 24, 2025. This edition of the guest lecture carried the theme “Learning from Kampung Akuarium” in North Jakarta and featured Elisa Sutanudjaja, Executive Director of the Rujak Center for Urban Studies, as the invited speaker.

The lecture invited participants to explore valuable lessons from Kampung Akuarium—how the concept of community-based and inclusive kampung susun (vertical village housing) was implemented, along with the various dynamics faced before, during, and after its development. read more

“The Rise of Asia” Conference Strengthens Asian-African Solidarity in Paris and Le Havre

Paris and Le Havre, France — From March 5 to 7, 2025, the international conference “The Rise of Asia” took place, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the 1955 Asian-African Conference and continuing the Bandung Spirit Movement. Day one was held in Paris, followed by sessions in Le Havre for the remaining two days, serving as a crucial forum for developing countries to collaborate on creating a more just, inclusive, and sustainable global future.

Since its launch in 2015, The Rise of Asia Conference has consistently emphasized solidarity, cooperation, and decolonization. This year, it reinforced its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as the foundation of global development initiatives. A key agenda was the establishment of the University of New Emerging Forces (UNEFO) in Koudougou, Burkina Faso, supporting SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), and SDGs 10 and 11 (Reducing Inequality and Building Sustainable Communities). Notably, a student from UGM’s Department of Architecture and Planning (DTAP), Bening Putri Kasandra, contributed to the library design team for UNEFO, incorporating Burkina Faso’s local values and embodying the Asia-Africa spirit. read more

MPWK UGM Conducts Interview for Prospective Postgraduate Student from Timor-Leste

Yogyakarta, April 9, 2025 — The Master’s Program in Urban and Regional Planning (MPWK) at Universitas Gadjah Mada conducted an interview with a prospective student from Timor-Leste as part of the 2025/2026 academic year student admission process. The interview was carried out by the Head of the MPWK Program, Dr.Eng. Muhammad Sani Roychansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IAP, representing the program in selecting international candidates for the Special Scholarship for Postgraduate Students.

This interview served as a key step in the scholarship selection process, which is the result of a collaboration between Universitas Gadjah Mada and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Culture of Timor-Leste, initiated in November 2024. The program aims to provide opportunities for outstanding Timorese students to pursue graduate studies at UGM. read more

Modern Project Management in Transportation Infrastructure Development

Tuesday, March 25, 2025 – Ir. Ikaputra, M.Eng., Ph.D., attended and delivered opening remarks as the Head of the Center for Transportation and Logistics Studies (PUSTRAL) UGM at a webinar titled “Modern Project Management in Transportation Infrastructure Development.” The event was organized by PUSTRAL UGM and held online via Zoom Meeting, with a live broadcast on PUSTRAL UGM’s YouTube channel.

In his remarks, Ir. Ikaputra emphasized that transportation infrastructure development serves as the backbone of economic growth and equitable regional development. Projects such as toll roads, railways, ports, and airports not only enhance interregional connectivity but also help reduce logistics costs and promote the tourism sector. Given the complexity of infrastructure projects, an innovative, integrated, and efficient project management approach is essential. read more

Disabled Toilets as a Form of Inclusivity

These facilities provide freedom and independence, allowing individuals with physical limitations to meet their basic needs without facing barriers. Moreover, the presence of disabled-accessible toilets symbolizes a commitment to the principles of equality and inclusion, aligning with SDGs 10 (reducing inequality). read more

Public Lectures Welcoming the New Semester 2025

To welcome the new semester, study programs in the Department of Architecture and Planning held public lectures by inviting practitioners and academics from various backgrounds. This public lecture aims to be a forum for sharing the latest knowledge and experiences in architecture and planning. In addition, this event also prepares students to start their studies again.

On February 7, 2025, Urban and Regional Planning invited Dr. Sonia Roitman (Associate Professor, University of Queensland). Dr. Sonia gave a lecture titled “Indonesian Planning in Southern Planning Context”. The event took place in the 2nd Floor Meeting Room and was open to undergraduate to doctoral level URP students. In her lecture, Dr. Sonia explained the importance of inclusive and sustainable planning in the context of developing countries. This aligns with SDGs goal number 11, which is to create more inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities and settlements. And supports SDGs number 16, namely peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, providing access to justice for all, and building effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels. read more
