In celebration of the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, staff members of the Department of Architecture and Planning (DTAP), Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada, including administrative staff, security personnel, and cleaning service staff, took part in a series of games organized by the Faculty of Engineering on Friday (July 31) at the FT Basketball Court. The event served as both a token of appreciation and a refreshing break for employees whose contributions are essential to supporting the University’s academic and operational activities. Although much of their work takes place behind the scenes, their roles are indispensable in ensuring the smooth delivery of teaching and learning activities, administrative services, and a safe and comfortable campus environment.

The three hour event featured both team and individual games. Team challenges, including transferring flour, putting straws into bottles, a water relay, and moving balls, encouraged teamwork, coordination, and collaboration among participants. Meanwhile, individual games, such as hooking hangers, eating biscuits without using hands, putting on oversized pants, and balloon races, brought the festive spirit of Indonesia’s Independence Day celebration, filling the event with laughter and camaraderie.

Each department within the Faculty of Engineering sent representatives to compete in the various games, with a total prize pool of IDR 7 million. Prizes were presented immediately after each competition concluded, adding to the excitement and enthusiasm throughout the event.

For the DTAP community, the event provided an opportunity to strengthen bonds beyond the workplace while allowing staff members to take a well deserved break from their daily routines. The spirit of sportsmanship, collaboration, and togetherness fostered throughout the event is expected to further support the department’s academic and operational services. The activity also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by promoting employees’ physical and mental well-being, and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by fostering a healthy, inclusive, and collaborative working environment.
