Yogyakarta, March 3, 2025 – The Urban and Regional Planning Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada (PWK UGM) held another guest lecture as part of the Data Analysis Methods and Techniques course. The lecture, titled Spatial Analysis for Planning, featured Firman Afrianto, S.T., M.T.—a practitioner and consultant in urban and regional planning from PT Sagamartha Ultima—as the main speaker.

The event took place at SGLC Room 5B2 and was opened by the course instructor, Isti Hidayati, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., who also gave an introduction highlighting the importance of spatial analysis in modern urban planning. On March 5–6, 2025, a delegation from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) participated in the 19^th Southeast Asian Technical University Consortium (SEATUC) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The event, themed “Innovation for Green and Sustainable Future,” showcased discussions on innovation and sustainability. Among the UGM delegation team was Dr. Ir. World of Windows is a video creation by the students of the 2023 Architecture Design Concentration, Master’s Program in the Architecture Study Program at UGM, as part of the coursework for Studio 1.

“Windows are an important aspect of architecture with various functions. They are generally used as openings for lighting and ventilation in buildings. However, windows also serve other functions for users, such as for communication, interaction, enjoying views, and even as aesthetic elements. Therefore, we chose the theme World of Windows to explore the functions of windows around us in greater depth. The information presented is not only about windows in an empirical sense, but also conceptually. This theme aims to delve deeper into the function and meaning of a window for humans.” read more

To inspire the students’ architectural enthusiasm, on Friday, March 21, 2025, the Undergraduate Architecture Program held a guest lecture event called Archilecture with the theme “Have Fun with Architecture Elements”in Lecture Room 1 of the Department of Architecture and Planning (DTAP), Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada. Sukabumi Regency is facing a major challenge due to landslides that have hit several sub-districts in the past few weeks. This phenomenon, triggered by high rainfall, has triggered landslides and flash floods that have not only destroyed residents’ homes, but also damaged infrastructure in various areas. Hundreds of residents have been forced to evacuate to safer locations, leaving their homes that are no longer habitable. Although assistance to provide temporary housing has begun to arrive, many evacuees complain about the lack of comfort, especially when facing the scorching sun and heavy rain. read more

The campus environment, especially in the Department of Architecture and Planning (DTAP), has many empty spaces that have the potential to be activated as functional areas. One of them is the DTAP innercourt, an open space that is often underutilized. With an innovative design approach, this area can be transformed into a place that supports discussion activities, collaboration, and informal interactions between students and lecturers.

The need for small spaces that are flexible, multifunctional, and easy to move is relevant in the campus environment. These modular spaces can be adapted to maximize the use of the innercourt and other empty areas in DTAP. In addition to enriching the quality of space in the campus environment, modular design also provides flexibility for use in other locations as needed. read more

To enhance students’ understanding of architectural competitions, the Undergraduate Architecture Program, Department of Architecture and Planning (DTAP), Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada, organized a guest lecture titled “Competition – Testing Creativity, Building a Portfolio” on Friday, February 21, 2025, from 08:00 to 11:00 AM WIB in Room K1 DTAP. The program invited two guest speakers with professional backgrounds: Ar. Gilang Dwi Alridho, principal architect at Inklusi Design/PT Intuisi Kolaborasi Solusi, Yogyakarta (a graduate of the UGM Undergraduate Architecture and PPAr programs), and Arif Rachman Hidayat, S.T., principal architect at Suatudio, Bandung. read more

Recently, the Architecture Study Program of the Department of Architecture and Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Universaitas Gadjah Mada successfully held a guest lecture entitled “Integrating Türkiye Architecture into Halal Tourism“. This activity invited Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Pamukçu who is a lecturer from the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Afyon Kocatepe University, Türkiye.

This activity was held on Friday, November 1, 2024 in Lecture Room 1 of the Department of Architecture and Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada. This activity was attended by students of the Doctoral Program in Architecture, Master Program in Architecture with Tourism Concentration, and Bachelor Program in Architecture who took Tourism Architecture, Thematic Studio with Prof. Ir. New Clark City, Philippines – Warid Zul Ilmi, a graduate student in the Master’s Program in Urban and Regional Planning (MPWK) at Gadjah Mada University (UGM), participated in a series of activities during ISOCARP’s 60th World Planning Congress “Diamond Anniversary Series – 1st International Conference for New Cities | Planning New Regenerative Cities,” held in New Clark City (NCC), Philippines. The event began with the Young Professional Program Workshop (YPP) themed “Planning New Generative Cities” from September 2 to 6, 2024, followed by the World Planning Congress from September 10 to 13, 2024. read more

On Monday, August 26, 2024, the KATGAMA Bamboo Hall in Padukuhan Talunombo, Sidomulyo Village, Pengasih District, Kulon Progo Regency was inaugurated by KATGAMA and FT UGM. The 9 x 9 meter hall was designed by Prof. Euginius Pradipto from the Department of Architecture and Planning UGM, the funding came from the Engineering Alumni Family of Universitas Gadjah Mada (KATGAMA). The construction of this hall lasted for 6 months, starting with the groundbreaking on February 18, 2024 by involving local residents and utilizing local materials. read more
