On Friday, February 6, 2026, the Master of Urban Design Program organized a public lecture to mark the beginning of the even semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. The event was conducted in a hybrid format, held offline at Lecture Room 1, 3rd Floor, North Wing of DTAP FT UGM, and simultaneously accessible online via Zoom Meeting. Open to the public and alumni, the lecture provided a platform for knowledge exchange and engagement beyond the academic community, fostering a broader discussion on contemporary urban design issues.
The lecture carried the theme “Designing Resilient Cities: Regenerative Planning with Nature-based Solution” and featured Anton Siura, founder and principal of SIURA Studio, as the keynote speaker. In his presentation, Anton Siura emphasized the importance of understanding the inherent characteristics and natural context of urban environments as a fundamental basis for planning and design. He highlighted the need to integrate water resources and natural systems into urban design strategies to create livable places that are adaptive, resilient, and sustainable. The session offered valuable insights into how urban design can respond more effectively to environmental challenges through context-sensitive and nature-based approaches.
This public lecture also reflects contributions to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 4, Sustainable Development Goal 9, Sustainable Development Goal 11, and Sustainable Development Goal 13. The event supports the provision of quality education through an open learning forum while encouraging innovation in urban planning and design through nature-based approaches. Furthermore, the ideas presented align with global efforts to foster inclusive, resilient, and sustainable cities that are responsive to climate change challenges.
