The cool atmosphere of the slopes of Mount Andong in Girirejo Village, Ngablak District, Magelang Regency, now offers more than just the beautiful scenery typical of mountainous areas. Over the past few years, this area has also become a living laboratory for a team of lecturers from the Architectural Design Expertise Group, Department of Architecture and Planning Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada, who have consistently accompanied the local community in developing sustainable, community-based tourism potential. This community service program, which has been running since 2022, has now entered its fourth year of implementation. read more

Prof. Bakti Setiawan Presents the Development of Strategic Spatial Units in Yogyakarta during the “Ruang-Ruang yang Menginspirasi” Talkshow

Prof. Ir. Bakti Setiawan, M.A., Ph.D., widely known as Prof. Bobi, an academic in Urban and Regional Planning at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada, served as a speaker in the talkshow “Ruang-Ruang yang Menginspirasi” on Thursday, 18 December 2025. The event was held at the RBTV Jogja Studio, Universitas AMIKOM Yogyakarta. The talkshow provided a public forum to discuss spatial planning issues and the development of strategic areas in the Special Region of Yogyakarta.

The discussion focused on the role of Strategic Spatial Units (Satuan Ruang Strategis/SRS) in preserving and strengthening the distinctiveness of Yogyakarta, particularly from a regional planning perspective. SRS were positioned as important instruments that integrate philosophical, historical, customary, social, and environmental aspects in spatial management. This approach underscores the importance of aligning cultural values with regional development needs. read more

Yogyakarta, 28 October 2025 – In this edition, the Department of Urban and Regional Planning (PWK), Universitas Gadjah Mada, held a guest lecture entitled “Property Market Research.” The lecture was conducted offline at the Department of Architecture and Planning Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada. The event featured Nurul Soraya Desi Yonasari, Senior Researcher at Colliers Indonesia, as the guest speaker.

In this guest lecture, Nurul Soraya delivered a comprehensive discussion on property market research, with a particular focus on the hospitality sector. The session began with a fundamental understanding of hotels, covering classifications based on star ratings and travel purposes, as well as an introduction to hotel chains and branding concepts. read more

The lecture was open to members of the academic community as well as the general public.

On this occasion, PWK UGM invited Nicholas Phelps, Associate Dean (International) and Chair of Urban Planning, Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning (ABP), The University of Melbourne, as the keynote speaker. read more

Prof. Bakti Setiawan Highlights the Potential and Challenges of Tourism and Airport Operations in Indonesia

Prof. Ir. Bakti Setiawan M.A., Ph.D., commonly known as Prof. Bobi, served as a speaker in the Knowledge Sharing event on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. The event was organized by P.T. Sarana Multi Infrastruktur and provided valuable insights into the development of tourism and airport operations in Indonesia. Prof. Bobi presented a lecture titled “Tourism and Airport Operations in Indonesia: Current Condition and Its Prospect (Special Case in Heritage Tourism).”

In his introduction, Prof. Bobi emphasized that tourism holds significant potential for economic growth, equitable development, and poverty alleviation. The aspects of hospitality and creativity are increasingly critical in this industry. In addition, transportation facilities such as airports, seaports, and terminals play a vital role, with accessibility being a key factor in the growth of tourism in any region. read more

Prof. Bakti Setiawan, often known as Pak Bobi, was one of the speakers at the workshop “Protection of Cultural Heritage in the Implementation of Sustainable Infrastructure Development Projects in Indonesia” organized by P.T. Sarana Multi Infrastruktur. The event took place at Hotel Plataran Borobudur, Magelang, on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. It was attended by various stakeholders involved in heritage preservation and infrastructure development. The workshop aimed to strengthen cross-sector collaboration so that cultural heritage preservation efforts can go hand in hand with sustainable development. read more

Urban Planning Studio Students of UGM Participate in Focus Group Discussions on Code River Area Planning

This initiative is part of the Yogyakarta City Government’s efforts to formulate an integrated direction for the development and management of the Code River area. The Gadjah Mada City Festival Returns at Festagama 13.0

Yogyakarta, June 1, 2025 — The Gadjah Mada City Festival (Festagama) returned in 2025. Festagama is an annual festival open to the public, organized by students of the Urban and Regional Planning Program, Department of Architecture and Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada—specifically the 2023 and 2024 cohorts. The festival serves as a space for creative exploration that connects art, the city, and the community.

The 13th edition, Festagama 13.0, carries the theme “Citra Musim Rupa Kota” (Seasons of the City’s Images). This theme invites participants to explore urban dynamics through the diversity of seasons, showcasing how a city can adapt to various seasonal changes—covering aspects of urban infrastructure, city image and experience, and the aesthetics of public spaces. read more

Visit of Adamson University – College of Architecture, Philippines to DTAP UGM

Yogyakarta, August 21, 2025 – The Department of Architecture and Planning (DTAP), Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada, welcomed an academic visit from Adamson University – College of Architecture, Philippines. The delegation was led by Sylvester Shaun D. Seño, MArch-CTM, ASEAN Ar, Dean of the College of Architecture, with the primary purpose of conducting a benchmarking study of UGM’s Bachelor of Architecture program.

The visit began with an official discussion session at the DTAP meeting room, where the Adamson University delegation was introduced to UGM’s undergraduate architecture curriculum. The presentation covered learning strategies, graduate learning outcomes, and the development of academic programs aligned with the future needs of the architecture profession. This exchange also reflected UGM’s commitment to supporting SDG 4: Quality Education through continuous improvement of higher education quality and innovative, globally adaptive teaching methods. read more
