On August 4, 2025, Architecture Department lecturer at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Odilia Renaningtyas Manifesty, S.T., MA(UD), Ph.D., accepted an invitation from the Department of Architecture, Korea University. This visit was an important part of DTAP UGM’s international agenda aimed at strengthening academic networks, expanding collaboration opportunities, and enriching academic experiences for both faculty members and students at the global level.

During the visit, Dr. Odilia was directly involved in several strategic academic activities. One of them was serving as a thesis examiner for master’s (S2) students in the field of architecture. This examination provided a platform for exchanging academic perspectives across countries, as well as appreciating research conducted by international students. read more

Monday, August 25, 2025, marked the Inauguration of the Architect Profession for the August 2025 Period.

The ceremony was held at Pendapa Tedjo Suminto and attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada, faculty members of the Architecture Program, invited guests including representatives from IAI and external architectural partners, and the main highlight of the event: the graduating students being inaugurated.

The event began with the singing of Indonesia Raya and the Hymn of Gadjah Mada, followed by opening remarks from the Dean of FT UGM, Prof. Ir. Selo, S.T., M.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., and a speech by the Chairman of IAI, Ar. Georgius Budi Yulianto, S.T., M.T., IAI, AA. The ceremony continued with the signing of a cooperation charter by the Dean of FT UGM, Prof. Ir. Selo, S.T., M.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., representing DTAP UGM, alongside Ar. Yogyakarta, August 19, 2025 – The Undergraduate, Master’s, and Doctoral Programs in Urban and Regional Planning (PWK), Universitas Gadjah Mada, welcomed the 2025/2026 academic year with an inaugural lecture themed “The Role of Information Technology in Enhancing the Effectiveness of Spatial Planning.”

The lecture was held onsite at the SGLC (Smart Green Learning Center) Auditorium, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada. It was attended by faculty members and students of the PWK program across all levels—undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral—particularly new students. read more

On June 25, 2025, the Doctoral Program in Architecture, Department of Architecture and Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada (DTAP FT UGM), held a Closed Doctoral Examination for doctoral candidate Mutiawati Mandaka with the dissertation entitled “Urban Morphology of Historic Tourism Cities: Case Study of Lasem, Central Java.”

“This research highlights the crucial role of urban morphology in supporting sustainable tourism development in small historic towns, with a focus on the town of Lasem, Central Java. As a coastal town with rich cultural heritage, Lasem demonstrates how the historical form and spatial structure of the city can shape identity, enhance tourism appeal, and influence the direction of tourism development.”

On Friday, June 13, 2025, the Archilecture session “Graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture, What’s Next?” was held in Room K1 at DTAP UGM. This Archilecture session was combined with the Socialization of the Professional Architect Education Program (PPAr), with both topics delivered directly by Dr. Eng. Ar. Alexander Rani Suryandono, S.T., M.Arch., IAI, as the Head of the PPAr Program.

The lecture was open to all UGM architecture students in person and to the public online. It discussed career prospects as an architect in Indonesia as well as the regulations governing the profession. Students also learned about the requirements and prerequisites needed to join IAI (Ikatan Arsitek Indonesia/Indonesian Institute of Architects) as professional architects. read more

Ristya Arinta Safitri, a doctoral student of the Architecture Program, Department of Architecture and Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada (DTAP FT UGM), has published her scholarly article entitled “Adaptability of Siheyuan (四合院) Spatial Arrangement in Chinese Houses in Kampung Ketandan, Yogyakarta, Indonesia” in the internationally reputable journal Built Heritage, indexed by Scopus. This publication is part of her dissertation research conducted under the supervision of Prof. Ir. Tarcicius Yoyok Wahyu Subroto, M.Eng., Ph.D., IPUas Promoter, and Dr. Ir. Yogyakarta, May 27, 2025 — A heartfelt and proud atmosphere filled the Department of Architecture and Planning (DTAP), Universitas Gadjah Mada, on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, during the farewell ceremony for 12 graduates of the Undergraduate Program in Urban and Regional Planning (PWK) UGM. The event marked the official completion of the students’ academic journey while serving as a symbol of appreciation from the Department for the graduates’ dedication throughout their studies.

In a warm, emotional, and spirited gathering, lecturers, staff, and families joined to offer prayers and support to the graduates. The Department of Architecture and Planning delivered inspirational messages and hopes that the graduates will continue to carry the spirit of lifelong learning, integrity, care, and service into the next chapter of their lives, whether in their professional careers or through contributions to the wider community. read more

On Monday, July 21, 2025, the second thesis defense in the Architectural Design Concentration was successfully completed by Anindya Dhiracitta. Citta presented her thesis titled “Adaptive Co-Housing Model Based on Participatory Design for Young Generations in Yogyakarta.”

Amid the housing affordability crisis and the growing demand for supportive social spaces, conventional housing models often fail to accommodate the lifestyles and values of today’s younger generation. Through a Means-End Chain analysis approach, this thesis explored the relationship between housing attributes, usage consequences, and personal values considered significant for the lives of young people. This process was then translated into the design of an adaptive co-housing model, developed collaboratively with prospective residents through participatory design. read more

On Thursday, June 12, 2025, students of the 2024 Master of Urban Design Program, Universitas Gadjah Mada (Even Semester), held the Final Presentation of the Basic Urban Design Exploration Studio. The event featured an external reviewer from the Yogyakarta City Office of Land and Spatial Planning, Mr. Pamungkas, S.T., M.T., along with his team.

The Basic Exploration Studio is part of the learning process that emphasizes initial explorations of urban issues in depth. This semester, under the guidance of Dr. Eng. Ir. Muhammad Sani Roychansyah, S.T., M.Eng. and Dr. Dyah Titisari Widyastuti, S.T., MUDD, the project theme was “West Jogja Rapid Growth Area”, with a specific focus on the area surrounding HOS Cokroaminoto Street, Yogyakarta. The students conducted spatial, social, and environmental analyses as the foundation for developing sustainable area development strategies. read more
