Yogyakarta, September 15, 2026 The Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FT UGM) has issued Circular Letter Number 1193007/UN1/FTK/I/KM/2026 concerning the Regulations on Student Celebrations Following Final Examinations. The circular regulates how students may celebrate after completing their final examinations, ensuring that such celebrations remain simple, dignified, and in accordance with campus ethics.

In the circular, which was issued in Yogyakarta on July 30, 2026, FT UGM emphasizes that celebrating academic achievements is both a form of appreciation and a student’s right. However, celebrations must be conducted while maintaining order and respecting the comfort of the academic community. read more

A fire engulfed the settlement of Sade Village, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on Saturday night, August 22, 2026. The fire broke out while local residents were resting and resulted in hundreds of traditional Sasak houses being burned. Not only buildings and homes were affected, but residents’ belongings, including traditional woven textiles that constitute one of Sade Village’s distinctive local commodities, were also lost in the incident.

Sade Village is one of Indonesia’s traditional villages known as a destination for both domestic and international tourists. The village preserves the rich traditional architecture of the Sasak people, as well as tangible and intangible cultural heritage that continues to be maintained and preserved by the local community. Therefore, the fire not only caused material losses for residents but also posed a threat to the continuity of the cultural heritage and traditional architectural character that define Sade Village. read more

On Wednesday, August 19, 2026, the Department of Architecture and Planning (DTAP), Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held a farewell event for graduating students who were scheduled to attend the graduation ceremony on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Grha Sabha Pramana (GSP) UGM. The event was attended by the graduating students and their parents, as well as DTAP faculty members and staff who have contributed to their education throughout their studies.

From the May to July 2026 graduation assessment period, the Undergraduate Architecture Study Program graduated 53 students, while the Undergraduate Urban and Regional Planning Study Program (PWK) graduated 45 students. In total, 98 graduates from the two study programs are now ready to begin the next chapter of their journey after completing their studies at DTAP. read more

On Thursday, August 13, 2026, the Department of Architecture and Planning (DTAP) held an Info Day attended by first-year undergraduate students from the Architecture and Urban and Regional Planning (PWK) study programs, Class of 2026. The event took place in Room K1 on the second floor of DTAP, with the department session lasting approximately one hour. More than 150 students from both study programs participated in the event.

The event began with a brief introduction to DTAP, including its history and the study programs within the department. This was followed by an introduction to the lecturers and administrative staff who play an important role in supporting teaching and learning activities on campus. Each lecturer and staff member was called by name and took turns greeting the students with a wave. read more

Deva Fosterharoldas Swasto, a lecturer at the Department of Architecture and Planning (DTAP), Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), was one of the speakers at a discussion on alternative vertical housing models for residential areas in Yogyakarta City, organized by the Yogyakarta City Government, through the Housing and Settlement Areas Working Group (Pokja PKP).

The discussion addressed the need to develop alternative vertical housing models amid limited land availability and growing housing demand in Yogyakarta City. As a center for education, government, tourism, and economic activities, Yogyakarta has relatively high population density. Meanwhile, data on housing occupancy backlog indicate that 29.72% of households in Yogyakarta City do not yet occupy their own homes, making housing provision an important issue in the city’s development. read more

In celebration of the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, staff members of the Department of Architecture and Planning (DTAP), Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada, including administrative staff, security personnel, and cleaning service staff, took part in a series of games organized by the Faculty of Engineering on Friday (July 31) at the FT Basketball Court. The event served as both a token of appreciation and a refreshing break for employees whose contributions are essential to supporting the University’s academic and operational activities. Although much of their work takes place behind the scenes, their roles are indispensable in ensuring the smooth delivery of teaching and learning activities, administrative services, and a safe and comfortable campus environment. read more

Prof. Wiendu Nuryanti delivered a Valedictory Lecture titled “Rekayasa Arsitektur, Budaya, dan Pariwisata” (Engineering Architecture, Culture, and Tourism) on Tuesday (28/7), marking her retirement as a professor. On the same occasion, Prof. Wiendu also launched her book, Borobudur dan Kita. The event was attended by Prof. Wiendu’s colleagues, friends, and family, who gathered to hear the ideas she shared in her farewell lecture.

In her lecture, Prof. Wiendu highlighted the importance of the concept of “rekayasa” within the trilogy of architecture, culture, and tourism as one of the foundations for Indonesia to develop into a global superpower. According to her, the word reka is rooted in the idea of the work of human intellect and wisdom. Within this trilogy, architecture serves as the space or vessel; culture provides meaning, narratives, and legitimacy; while tourism serves as its driving force. read more

From July 6 to 8, 2026, representatives of the Department of Architecture and Planning, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), conducted an academic visit to the Department of Architecture, Dong-Eui University (DEU), Busan, South Korea. This visit marked an important milestone in strengthening UGM Architecture’s international network, while also introducing the context of architectural education in Indonesia to the academic community in South Korea.

The series of activities began with a guest lecture titled “Learning Architecture in Context: Indonesia and Yogyakarta.” This lecture introduced Indonesia, the city of Yogyakarta, and the profile of UGM’s Architecture Study Program to DEU’s academic community. It also presented an overview of ongoing research focused on publicness in architecture and urban design, a topic exploring how public space is shaped and given meaning within architectural practice and urban design. The lecture was attended by approximately 30 final-year students and 4 professors from DEU, becoming a space for academic dialogue between two institutions from different cultural backgrounds. read more

Bakti Setiawan, M.A., Ph.D., affectionately known as Prof. Bobby, Professor of the Urban and Regional Planning Study Program, Department of Architecture and Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada (DTAP FT UGM), participated in The 6th World Planning Schools Congress (WPSC) 2026, held from June 29 to July 3, 2026, in Helsinki, Finland. Under the theme “Peripheral Visions: Rethinking Planning”, the congress brought together academics, researchers, and planning practitioners from around the world to discuss emerging challenges and new directions in planning theory and practice in response to today’s global issues. read more
